about

I like using found sounds for their musical quality (melodic as well as rhythmic--as if the spoken word were a melody) and I am using a bit of dialog from a French documentary post-German occupation of Paris, as well as a bit from a Roosevelt speech in 1936, the year the photo was taken.

The end of the piece elides to diegetic sound in 1936 Nipomo California, with dogs barking and a radio playing a performance of A Farewell to Arms while someone else is playing a slide guitar in the room, along with some non-diegetic piano notes.
